FAQ

frequently asked questions

What happens in a typical counseling session?

When you arrive at the office, you will find there is no outdoor sign announcing the office location or what services are provided inside. Just inside, you will turn right (there is a Seaport Counseling Services sign by the door). You will enter a comfortable waiting room where you may wait until the time of your appointment. There is no check-in desk or sign-in sheet to fill out, and if anyone else is in the waiting room you will not have to talk to them. Dr. Jones will come out and meet you at your scheduled time, and then will accompany you to the counseling office for your private session.

A session usually lasts 45 minutes, although longer sessions might be considered useful. Between sessions, clients are encouraged to think about and process what was discussed. At times, you may be asked to do something specific between therapy sessions, such as reading a relevant book or keeping records. For the therapy to "work," you must be an active participant, both during and between the therapy sessions.

How might counseling benefit me?

A number of benefits are available from participating. Often it is helpful just to know that someone understands. Counseling can provide a fresh perspective on a difficult problem or point you in the direction of a solution. The benefits you obtain from counseling depend on how well you use the process and put into practice what you learn.

Will my information remain private and confidential?

From the curb to the counseling session, you will find that privacy has been considered in every aspect of Dr. Jones' practice. All records are secure and confidential, and privacy measures are audited regularly for compliance with the latest HIPAA guidelines and requirements. More detailed information on paper and digital security practices is available in your first meeting with Dr. Jones.

Do you accept insurance?

Yes., some insurances are accepted including Medicare Part B and Missouri Healthnet. Please check with your insurance company to make sure you have mental/behavioral health benefits.
